The Hadd punishments are an expiation for those on whom they are carried out

Sahih Muslim

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَزَادَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ فَتَلاَ عَلَيْنَا آيَةَ النِّسَاءِ ‏{‏ أَنْ لاَ يُشْرِكْنَ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا‏}‏ الآيَةَ ‏.‏

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Zuhri with the same chain of transmitters with this addition: " He recited to us the verse pertaining to women, viz, that they will not associate anything with Allah.
