One-fifth of Booty to the Cause of Allah (Khumus)
57/7. Chapter:
The Statement of Allah تعالى: "Verily one-fifth (1/5th) of it is assigned to Allah and to the Messenger ﷺ ..." (V.8:41)
يَعْنِي لِلرَّسُولِ قَسْمَ ذَلِكَ. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ وَخَازِنٌ، وَاللَّهُ يُعْطِي».It means that Allah's Messenger ﷺ had the authority of distributing it (i.e., the fifth share), for Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, "I am a distributor and a treasurer, and Allah is the Giver."
Sahih Bukhari
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الأَسْوَدِ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ ـ وَاسْمُهُ نُعْمَانُ ـ عَنْ خَوْلَةَ الأَنْصَارِيَّةِ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " إِنَّ رِجَالاً يَتَخَوَّضُونَ فِي مَالِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ، فَلَهُمُ النَّارُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ".
Narrated Khaula Al-Ansariya: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "Some people spend Allah's Wealth (i.e. Muslim's wealth) in an unjust manner; such people will be put in the (Hell) Fire on the Day of Resurrection."
