Manumission of Slaves

49/17. Chapter:

It is dislike to look down upon a slave

وَقَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: {وَالصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَائِكُمْ} وَقَالَ: {عَبْدًا مَمْلُوكًا}، {وَأَلْفَيَا سَيِّدَهَا لَدَى الْبَابِ} وَقَالَ: {مِنْ فَتَيَاتِكُمُ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ} وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «قُومُوا إِلَى سَيِّدِكُمْ». وَ{اذْكُرْنِي عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ} سَيِّدِكَ: «وَمَنْ سَيِّدُكُمْ».And also marry the Salihun (pious, fit and capable ones) of your (male) slaves and maid-servants (female slaves)... (V.24:32) And Allah said, "A slave (disbeliever) under the possession of another" (V.16:75) "... They both found her lord (i.e., her husband) at the door..." (V.12:25) "... believing girls [from among those (slaves) whom you right hands possess]..." (V.4:25) And the Prophet ﷺ said, "Get up for your master." Allah says: "...Mention me to your lord (i.e., your king so as to get me out of the prison)..." (V.12:42) (The Prophet ﷺ said), "And who is your master?"(1)

Sahih Bukhari : 2555

حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، وَزَيْدَ بْنَ خَالِدٍ، رضى الله عنهما عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِذَا زَنَتِ الأَمَةُ فَاجْلِدُوهَا، ثُمَّ إِذَا زَنَتْ فَاجْلِدُوهَا، ثُمَّ إِذَا زَنَتْ فَاجْلِدُوهَا، فِي الثَّالِثَةِ أَوِ الرَّابِعَةِ بِيعُوهَا وَلَوْ بِضَفِيرٍ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Abu Huraira and Zaid bin Khalid: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If a slave-girl (Ama) commits illegal sexual intercourse, scourge her; if she does it again, scourge her again; if she repeats it, scourge her again." The narrator added that on the third or the fourth offense, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Sell her even for a hair rope."
