فَلَوْلَآ إِذْ جَآءَهُم بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوا۟ وَلَـٰكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ٤٣
Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves? But their hearts became hardened, and Satan made attractive to them that which they were doing.
فَلَوْلا إِذْ جَاءهُمْ بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُواْWhen Our torment reached them, why then did they not believe with humility,Meaning:Why do they not believe and humble themselves before Us when We test them with disaster!'وَلَـكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْBut their hearts became hardened,for their hearts are not soft or humble,وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَand Shaytan made fair-seeming to them that which they used to do.That is, Shirk, defiance and rebellion
