وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٍۢ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ ٤٢
And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us].
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلنَأ إِلَى أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَفَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْبَأْسَاءVerily, We sent (Messengers) to many nations before you. And We seized them with extreme poverty...That is, loss of wealth and diminished provisions,وَالضَّرَّاءand loss of health,various illnesses, diseases and pain,لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَso that they might believe with humility.and call Allah and supplicate to Him with humbleness and humility.Allah said
